#Journey - part 2

Baby didn't opened his eyes for many days. He was not able to feed directly. He was fed through the tube. And that too the feed would return in the tube with traces of blood in it. After few days when he opened his eyes I could see a white dot in his right eye. I said my husband about it and the same day doc said he has cataract. Now doc doubted it to be Torch infection. Samples were send for the tests and he was infected by Rubella. Rubella effects eyes, ears, brain, heart and growth of baby. I told my husband that his ears are fine as he is able to hear me whenever I talk to him but he breathes heavily. And Yes!! The mother inside me was right again. His ears were fine...But heart was detected with a PDA(hole). Brain too was fine then but a MRI is to be done when he turns one year old and I am sure this too will turn out to b fine.

These things totally shook us...But now it was high time. We decided to b strong for our baby. And yes after that day we didn't cried on the defects but we started visiting docs and discussing the remedies. We took baby home after 17 days when he was able to feed around 20ml in every feed. The tough challenge of bringing up a premature baby with so many complications began...I remember the days when I didn't slept for so many days. He would take one hour to feed 20ml. Yet he was not able to suck. I had to express and feed. He was adviced to always fed in seated position and this was more tiring. Protecting him from cough and cold too was the challenge as this was not at all acceptable for a baby with heart problem. I remember the first time when I heard sound from his nose...his blocked was blocked and it scared the hell out of me. I woke up my husband and he sorted that it's blocked nose and put saline nasal drop. The situation was such that if he slept a sound sleep and didn't wake for long time I would have to check if he is breathing or not. O God!! those days are gone finally.
To be continued...
