A birth is considered to be "preterm" when a child is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy have been completed.

How preterm babies look?
The earlier your baby arrives, the smaller baby will be.

With little fat, the skin will seem thinner.

After a quick examination baby may be shifted to NICU.
How preterm baby acts?
Preterm baby will cry softly.

If baby is more then two months early she might have trouble breathing and would need extra oxygen.
When will baby be send to home?
1- Can baby maintain body temperature well in outside environment?
2- Can baby feed well without any tube?
3- Can baby gain weight steadily now without any issues.
How to handle baby at home?
Limit visits- Visits outside home should be limited to hospital for several weeks.
Avoid more visitors-; The more the visitors the more is the chance of baby being exposed to infections. So limit the visitors. Also don't allow anyone kiss the baby or touch without washing and sanitizing hands.
Practice kangaroo theraphy-skin to skin contact is very important. This is dressing your baby only in diaper and putting baby on chest. Turn baby's head to one side so that baby's ear is against heart. This helps in enhancing mother-child bond, promote breastfeeding; and improving a premies health.
Beside taking care of baby you need to take care of yourself too. Take help from family members and friends. Seek support from doctors. Take enough rest...Eat well and be happy. Only Happy mother can raise; a happy child.
p.s- I raised a skeleton baby to a normal looking baby finally. So, don't stress if you have a premie.
