#mommytakeover Yeah, so this new journey was a bit scary. I decided to learn this new language, I decided to blend well into this new lifestyle. This college was something that was too far from my house, just the next small town but lifestyle was just too different. I realised that if I do not change, I will not be able to handle future challenges.
So, I decided to make friends with those who were social, who spoke English well and I started bugging a couple of kind-hearted teachers. They helped me immensely by explaining the concepts in my language and these friends, I am always and forever indebted to them -- Girija, Nilesh and many more who took me under their wings. I learnt to socialise, I learnt to feel confident, I learnt to dress up and carry myself well.
It was tough at first but then I got it ultimately.
Towards the last year of college, I attended an acting workshop by Pt. Satyadeo Dubey in Mumbai and got drawn into that field. I did a lot of work with Panditji. In fact, this workshop opened a whole new world to me. I got a new hobby and met so many people from so many stratas of lives. Different personalities, different attitudes, different life styles. I learnt so much, but at the same time, I developed a few complexes, or probably they were always there and I realised them only after coming out of my warm cocoon. So, there was this another journey to be tackled - winning over my complexes. However, someone like me who had a huge public speaking fear started working on the stage.
Most importantly my parents were supportive. I think, it is very important to not turn into a complete friend to your children, it is important to have that distance which will offer the children a space of their own to take their own decisions and let them make mistakes, but it is important to keep that warmth and connection with them, so that they come and share their failures with you. I think it is important to avoid that urge of saying ‘I knew it…’ or ‘I had told you so…’ or ‘How could you do this…’ or ‘I am so disappointed in you…’
I was lucky to have a set of parents who supported me all the way in my adventures, the only one rule that I followed was - NEVER TELL A LIE. But again I feel, here because they accepted all my truths with an open mind and a progressive mindset, it was fine for me to share. They never reprimanded me for wrong decisions - they explained the logic and asked me learn from the decision.
I went on to follow my Post Graduation along with my course in 3D Graphics, it was hectic life. I started from home at 5:15 AM and returned only at 9:00 PM. But it was all worth it. In the next 2 years I completed both the courses well - yet again thanks to my parents for not cutting my wings. While this was all going on, they wanted to get me married….
