question
My baby is 2 weeks old and has lost little weight from the time of birth. In the last three days I have noticed that he dozes of to sleep the moment he starts sucking my nipples while breastfeeding. I keep waking him up but still I am worried if he is getting appropriate nutrition required. It's very difficult to put him to sleep in the cradle . He is only sleeping when taken close to my body. My friends say I an developing a bad habit for him. Is that true? Please suggest . I am a first time mother and I am really worried. I feel he is not sleeping enough becUse of which he is getting tired while breastfeeding and is sleeping off. Please advise. Shweta

Also keep track of his urine count. Should be minimum seven in twenty four hours.

All babies loose about ten percent of their birth weight and this is normal. It should be regained by the time the baby is about 15 days old. Falling asleep at the breast is normal. Keep the baby unwrapped while feeding so that the baby can be encouraged to complete a feed. In the womb the baby is used to being close to something warm and snug hence they prefer to sleep cuddled up next to the mother since even the heart beat is familiar. It is fine and not a cause of concern. However when you put the baby in the cradle do try and put him down awake. When you place him down, nudge him a bit when he opens his eyes smile pat him and let him fall back to sleep.

Shweta, two weeks old baby needs mommy 's warmth...sleep with your baby instead of putting it in a cradle. Put the baby in the cradle during the day time when you not around the baby.. Few ppl say as much as baby sleeps in theirs first month its good for their health.. Feed on demand.;

Also do keep a check that the surroundings are calm while ur baby is trying to sleep and when he is sleeping.
