A woman's freedom in independent India still hangs on a feeble thread. Her independence is determined by where she is born, into which class of the society, into what kind of family, what is her upbringing, what is her career choice, what does she wear, how does she behave, how does she choose to get married and the list goes on. She is judged in every aspect from the day she is born till and even after her death.;
My freedom... It lies in myself, when I can spread my wings and breathe a sigh of relief that I'm not judged anymore. My freedom... It wanders through the streets that I can tread alone and feel safe. My freedom... It is those clothes that make me feel confident and comfortable, but I'm not judged for what I wear. My freedom... It is in the food I eat when I choose to eat it the way I like it.; My freedom... Lies in the fact that I can heartily laugh at a joke unshaken by who is watching me or where I am. My freedom... It's when I can speak my mind and tell the other person that I'm hurt and I'm not responsible for everything.; My freedom... When I can make my choices known without hesitation. My freedom... I raise my children my way and there's no interference.; My freedom... Lives in the fact that I'm no more blamed for every mishap and mistake. My freedom... It's the respect I deserve and rightfully demand for.; My freedom... When my soul can sing a happy tune of letting me be me.; My freedom... It's about myself, not having to bow down to illogical societal norms and labelling me a rebel for not doing so. My freedom... Not having to be explanatory at every single thing but understood.; My freedom... Still being me and living until I choose to submit.;
