question
My Mexican gyn/obs suggested me to take calcium and iron supplements till i continue to breastfeed (for now it's 1yr 8months) so that I don't face problem during menopause but my Indian gyn/obs is suggesting it's not necessary if I have iron and calcium content food and also that daily consumption of tablets may not be good for body in long term. Who is right in this? What's your personal experience?

Dr Pooja

Hey Mom, need not worry. The taking of tablets will be helpful if you are still breastfeeding. These ate supplements which are taking care of your nutritional requirements. They also help you to benefit from keeping your daily intake intact. In India there is no any concrete research which supports this mechanism hence the doctors say to stop this. However, there is not harm if you wish to continue taking them marginally. Also keep the dosage of 3 months and have abreak of 1 month to understand if these medicines are doing justice to your health
