Our ancestors worshiped all forms of Nature !! They knew that these are the real Gods and are so important for our very existence !
Samba Dashmi is another festival in Orissa where we worship our main source of Food , Light and Warmth the Sun God.
It is celebrated on the 10 th day of Shukla Pakshya of Pausa Masa.

On this day Mothers pray to Surya for the good health of their Children .

The history goes that : Samba the son of Lord Krishna , was effected with Leprosy and Was cured by Sun God Surya after 12 years of penance near konark .

One of the rituals in the puja is that variety of individual food items are prepared in the name of each member of the family especially children and the food is offered as prasad to Surya .

At noon, a bowl of turmeric water along with betel is taken and the reflection of the sun God is seen and the delicacies offered to Sun.
In the evening, another puja is observed as a part of the Samba Dashmi Ritual . This is

the Mahakaal puja in which Budha Chakuli is offered to Yama.
