#Nourishment to the mind Shift ➡️ your focus. So much of breastfeeding is mental. The anxiety, the uncertainty, the self-doubt, the comparison game. So much of breastfeeding success is about controlling your thoughts. ⭐️Ounces per feed , "snack" feeds, "full" feeds... honestly who cares. Listen to your baby. They can get plenty of calories via smaller feeds and yes, a baby who "snacks" all day can still sleep really well at night. Frequent feeds are actually so desirable for building and maintaining milk supply. The number of feeds each mom needs will differ (see my last post), but more frequent feeds = more milk. ⭐️Your freezer stash. Ah, the famous freezer stash. No; you don't even need this. It may feel nice and secure, but all you need is what you need - 1-1.5 ounces / hour you're away. Don't stress about having an abundance of milk, as this can be really difficult to obtain, especially if you're nursing as well. ⭐️The foods you're eating: there are no right or wrong foods for breastfeeding (even alcohol!). There are no foods that make a huge difference for milk supply in either direction. But there are foods that fuel your body better than others. Nursing moms need 500-600 calories more than an average non-nursing woman of the same age. Choosing nutrient dense foods will help you feel your best (and those nutrients will be passed on to 👶🏼!) But don't stress about eating the "right" foods or loading up on oats. Seriously. Instead, let's focus on making breastfeeding a comfortable and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. Let's focus on whether your baby is getting what he needs. Lets focus on frequent feeds. Let's focus on building a healthy milk supply by feeding on demand.
