Well... for me it's the choice of the clothes!!! Toddler can not only be picky about food , they can also be picky about the clothes!! So if your morning starts with the conversations like ..." Which t-shirt you like? Blue or black?" ... "would you like to wear; sweater or sweatshirt, as it's cold outside?" ...mind you, you are going through a wardrobe war!!!
So what is it about choosing the clothes?? ❤For them it's just a fascination. At this age they learn so much about the surrounding, picking up clothes might be another level of exploration.
❤ Even if they stir up your already stressful morning routine, they are not worthy of any clinical labels. Children between the age group 2-5 years, goes through the phase, where they latch on to their preferences, taste, choices.
❤ Sometimes you might uncover the logical explanation behind their choices. When my son wanted to wear the shorts always instead of pants, I would make a ruckus saying it's cold outside. It was later I came to know about his pants being loose on the elastic and he wasn't able to run!!
❤It's a sign of growing up, If suddenly they start to show up their preferences. It's an opportunity for them to put everything they know into practice.
So why it's a good idea to let them pick up their clothes? ❤ Give a little freedom!
I give my son 1000 instructions a day, so this is the only and the safest way to make him feel independent!
❤Let them be expressive!
Choosing own clothes might give them the way to express themselves as they are already short of words. It's much more than just wearing pretty clothes!
❤ Strengthen the bond!
It's a great way to connect, communicate and get to know each other's taste. So if they knows that they are going to be able to choose what they want, they might want to spare you the tantrums!!
❤It's a fun!
Use a little tricks and games. Pull out 2 outfits which you both likes and let them choose. It defuses the battle you see!
It works when you have to dress up for an event.
❤ Opinions are countable!
To have them to trust you, is very essential in their development, so showing them that every emotions, every opinion of them is accountable , they feel loved, supported cared and valued!! It also builds confidence.
One thing I did, which worked perfectly... I stopped arguing and skirmishing with my almost 2 YO. If there is a fuss, we come; with a bit of compromise. Though we ensure his choices are weather and activity appropriate!
After all having a satisfied child at the end of the day is far more important than dressing nicely!!!
