Yesterday I was going through so many online shopping sites to checkout some Summer Tees and Toys for my baby Girl “N”!
I always apply a filter before searching for any product specially the “Age” and the gender as ” Girl/Unisex”.
Today it came to my mind to check what collections do they have for boys.
I was scrolling down and I was surprised to see how encouraging quotes or words have been printed on a Boy’s tee.
Some of them are as below for 3-6 months Baby Boy-
“BORN LEADER”
“BORN TO EXPLORE” – WILDLIFE EXPERT
“A LITTLE PILOT”
“WOW CHAMPION”
Now listing the below for 3-6 months Baby Girl-
“PRINCESS”
“SMILE”
“SWEET TREAT”
“BEAUTIFUL”
Same with the toys, searching for girls showed Dolls, teddies, kitchen Sets etc.
And for boys there are Cars, building blocks, baseball etc.
I know many of us have never noticed this and may have been confounded today by seeing this.
In today’s world also being a parent we are specifying what cloths our baby needs to wear. If it’s a girl, it has to be pink or it has to be a frock!. Or if it’s a boy he can only play with building blocks or cars.
Why are we not letting the child (toddler) to decide what she/he wants to play with.
Why are we limiting their cognitive aspects. Why it can’t be the other way around where baby girl can play with Cars and why its wrong to introduce a baby kitchen set to a baby boy!
Even many of us have grown up in same environment and later we keep on criticising each other. Either the boy tease the girl saying ” You are a girl, you can’t do this” or a Girl tease a boy saying ” You cannot do household things”!
So let’s break this stereotype and let our children grow up in a gender equality environment. Do not limit their dresses to just pink and blue or do not filter it to Girl/Boy ! Let them explore this beautiful world full of lively colours. Let them learn and built a world full of humanity!!
