Reasons why curd should be a must have food in pregnancy!!
1. Curd is known to be a probiotic food (has lactobacillus which is a good gut bacteria) which aids digestion. Including curd or yougurt once or twice a day helps in proper digestion. It also helps in better absorbtion of nutrients by the small intestine and treats constipation.
2. Curd is a storehouse of vital pregnancy nutrients like protein and calcium, which are good for the expectant mother as well as her Foetus as it helps develop bones and teeth. The protein part helps build babies muscles.
3. Curd is a food with cooling properties. Pregnant ladies usually crave for spicy and tangy food and it's natural to consume little bit of it. Curd helps nullify it's effects and keeps the body cool.
4. Many ladies have a prolonged nausea or vomiting issue during pregnancy. So, if not anything else having some sweet yogurt or curd with little black salt or daliya or khichdi with curd or curd rice are options one can take.
5. Curd is a heart friendly food and is known to lower blood pressure (a major Pregnancy issue) and cholesterol so consuming it is good for everyone.
6. Curd is a calming food and helps reduce even stress and anxiety. It is a healthy replacement for foods like heavy sweets, ice creams etc and also reduces heartburn which is one of the major issues in late Pregnancy for many ladies.
7. Many women face issues like dry skin and pigmentation in Pregnancy and it is due to hormonal changes. Yogurt is rich in vitamin E and daily consumption helps prevent it to an extent and treat it too.
Thus, yogurt can qualify as a Pregnancy super food and a must have one during pregnancy. One must however take care that it is made with pasteurized milk to avoid any bacterial infection. Also homemade curd is the best. Another important thing to remember is that as yogurt also has fats in good amount consumption should not be too much. It can also be made from low fat milk sometimes.
Curd with jaggery, buttermilk, curd rice, khichdi with curd, fruit custard with curd, rava idli with curd, fruit yogurts etc are some of the dishes we can make easily with curd.
