#premature or #preterm what's the difference?

We often use the terms interchangeably but they have different meanings.

Premature means a baby that is not fully developed. They usually need to be in the NICU and cannot manage in everyday surrounding unless they grow slightly older.
Preterm means delivery before time but does not mean that the baby has to be underdeveloped. Fir ex. My twins were born in the 8th month, which is preterm. But they were healthy and did not need to be in the NICU, which means they were not premature.

Hope this information is of help to new moms.
