Is it really required for every single baby to look round and chubby?? And do you really believe that babies are healthy only if they are round??
Well not at all. Growth is very important. We as parents should always keep track of baby’s growth and when they fall off the growth charts, we need to check with pediatricians to find out the underlying cause and if it’s something that’s because of lactation, it’s important to check with a lactation professional. Giving packed foods, biscuits, and other unhealthy items to make the baby gain more is not at all the solution. So how much is growth important and what does the growth charts indicate? What is normal and what is not?
The centile line curves range from 0.4th centile to 99.6th centile which indicate the normal growth range. However this also means that there will be 4 babies in every 1000 who are less than the 0.4th centile and 4 babies in every 1000 who are greater than the 99.6th centile who are also considered normal. So a thin baby who is active, alert and meeting milestones within the range are as healthy as a baby who is chubby, active, alert and happy. Your baby’s growth should follow a centile curve consistently throughout their first year. They don’t need to be on an actual line, they can be between them, so long as their growth roughly follows the shape of the curve. Fluctuations are normal and the key is to look at your baby’s changes in weight, length and head circumference over time.
And there will be random aunties who always comments a thin baby that they aren’t getting enough and wants you to supplement the baby will all unhealthy stuffs even before the baby is ready for weaning. But the worst part is, these aunties will be the same ones who shame other chubby children to lose weight in order to become slim and trim!
So these advices are never ending and I request every parent to not even give a damn about it and never let anybody shame your baby and you. ❤️
