Its really up to you and your kid. My son has slept in his cot kept in our room from day 1 (I am overweight, I feared I might crush him under my weight). He is now too big for his cot and we are considering getting him his own bed. Will start by probably a matteress or a futon in our room and gradually; both of us will move to his room before making the complete switch. If he has issues, may end up dropping the idea too. I don't really think there is a prescribed age for this. You and your kid decide when you both are ready.

I got a bed for my daughter when she was just 4 months old..we keep shuffling between cosleeping and sleeping separately..the bed is laid in our room only..if you want him to shift in his room 4-5 years age is appropriate..also make sure you have a baby monitor installed in his room..this helps in making sure that the kid is comfortable and safe..

Five years would be appropriate, if you still wanna spend time seven is the most appropriate time

I guess about 5 years is good to go. Tucking him in on his own bed will be the best start to this :)
