Hey mommies, a lot is being said about the vaccination. So many doubts about its efficacy, side effects and also if a lactating mother should get vaccinated. Since most of my audience here are new moms, I would like to share my experience and help to clarify a few doubts on the same.
▪ Which vaccination is efficient and better - In India, we have an option of getting covishield or covaxin. Both vaccines are efficient and give good protection against the virus. So you may opt for any one of these.
▪ What are the side effects - Low-grade fever, chills, body ache, headache, etc are some of the side effects. However, it won't last for more than a day. Just take paracetamol and you should be fine soon.
▪ Does everyone have side effects - Not necessary. Some might not show any side effects at all. Some might show only after one dose. Like in my case, I had fever and chills after the first dose which lasted only for a day. However, after the second dose, I did not have any side effects.
▪ Can lactating mothers take the vaccine? - Well, this is the most important point to note. I am a lactating mother myself and after doing good research and discussing with my physician and pediatrician, I have gone ahead and got vaccinated. There are no studies yet to prove any adverse effects of the same on the mother or the baby. In fact, there are high chances of the antibodies passing to the baby which can further protect the mother as well as the baby from this deadly virus. However, I will still strongly recommend discussing getting vaccinated with your physician and do your own research as well.
So moms, starting 1st May, vaccination will be made available for 18+ and if your physician gives you a green signal, please go ahead and get vaccinated. However, it's important to continue following the protocols like maintaining social distance, washing your hands regularly and wearing a mask!
