She was searching for an old book,

she saw her old spects instead.

All the memories woke up in her mind,

though she thought they were dead.
She had doe eyes,

but was proud of her glasses,

She wore them to work,

she wore them to art classes.
Lo she grew up,

now she is twenty five,

Her parents called suitable boys,

to judge their daughter live.
She is pretty, many said,

and whispered, "but her spects"

What she loved a lot,

Now started getting her rejects.
She went for contacts,

her eyes were red.

She was asked to go for

a surgery instead.
She soon got a guy,

whose demands were a ton.

She took a huge loan,

Got the Lasik done.
Time flew away without much noise,

She had compromised too much

as she had no choice.

Except a baby, she had no joys.
His visits to home became rare,

People blamed her for looking tired.

Her work too suffered,

In no time she was fired.
Have another kid, he will be busy.

She was told by all, to keep her marriage going.

She refused and gave him one more chance,

but that was not easy.
Too much suffering, she decided to give up,

She took the baby and walked away one day.

He was stunned and desperate,

she obliged only as he begged her to stay.
She came out of her thoughts and home,

She got plain glasses in the same old frame,

She began wearing them all the time

Happy, nostalgic, with no regret or shame.
His parents looked at her with disgust,

Her parents thought she has gone mad,

I love these so much, will always have them on,

she told her baby boy, and his confused Dad.
