So ladies,,, hope all of you gone through the post FETAL POSITIONS explained by @Dr Payal M .. (if not then here is the link-; http://app.babychakra.com/feedpost/18454)... Now, I am discussing about the BEST and FAVOURABLE position of fetus for NORMAL LABOR...

As all know, there are so many factors influence for a normal labor, the position of fetus plays one important role in progressing labor..

The best position for baby to be is head-down (cephalic presentation), with the back of head towards the front of tummy (anterior position).

If baby is head-down, but with the back of his head towards back, this is called occipito-posterior position.

If baby is in a bottom-down position, this is called;breech position.

In the ideal head-down anterior position, baby fits snugly into the curve of pelvis. During labour, baby will curl back over, and tuck chin into chest. Labour and birth is more likely to progress smoothly if baby is in this position.. As the top of baby's head puts rounded and even pressure on cervix. During contractions, this pressure will help cervix to widen and body to produce the hormones needed for labour..

A back-to-back or occipito posterior position is where; baby has head down, but the back of head and back is against mother's spine. Most back-to-back babies are born vaginally. But this position can make labour more difficult and may take longer duration to deliver.. If the labor won't progress or fetal distress etc- Emergency c-section is done..

Sometimes, this is one major cause the contractions will not start even after 37- 40weeks..

Point to be noted- These informations are just for a gross understanding,,, not for medical reference as this topic is too vast, and better adviced by your doctor..
