Talent or TRP. I have taken to watching a talent reality show these days because other members in the family also do. This particular show is a musical talent hunt for kids. There is no doubt that the talent of the kids who are performing on the show is fabulous. At ages 10 and 12, these kids have amazing voices. But I am uncomfortable with the way in which these kids are made to dress, the kind of stereotypes they are subject to..how a certain kid is made the butt of all jokes because of how s/he looks/speaks or dresses...all in the name of 'Entertainment'. At an age when childrens' personalities and confidence is shaping up, do they really need to be part of something like this? Even if it means a bright future and lots of opportunities? What do you guys think?

I hate those shows. the makeup done and adult like expressions taught to these kids in the name of talent and dance is despicable. also the competition I feel is unhealthy.

I agree...it's obvious that their talent needs an appreciation but I am not sure about the opportunities... how many from reality show actually set up their life based on their experience of these shows

I totally despise these shows. Childhood should be synonymous with innocence and innocence is not what the show makers can do with for their trps.It is sad and as a parent I would never put my child there.

It's important to have a child's talent appreciated but I totally agree, that talent should not be mixed with how someone dresses. But the entertainment industry has become so influential that talent show or not, but how kids dress these days for a simple evening out is becoming void of childhood innocence. Their look is complete with lipgloss, kajal and straightened hair. it's no longer about fun and games, it's about how one dresses, these days ! What's "in" and what's not! I met a girl in fifth standard whose mother was boasting about her daughter had a Coach sling and I was appalled. Why expose a child of that age to brands? Why is that important?
