. 👶🏻 Babies are born with a sucking reflex so that they can either breast or bottle feed. However, babies are NOT born knowing how to eat foods. They need to develop feeding skills such as biting and chewing when solid foods are introduced. .
.
👶🏻 Babies develop these feeding skills when they have the opportunity to experience foods of different textures. This is why it is SO important to progress from smooth purées to thicker and lumpier textures as well as offering soft finger foods, so that your baby can develop these feeding skills from 6 months of age. .
.
🥦 In the photo I have shown broccoli as a smooth purée, then mashed with soft lumps and as a soft finger food. Your baby does not need to be on the smooth purées for very long, around 1-2 weeks depending on their age and development. Some babies (and parents) prefer to start weaning with soft finger foods and that’s absolutely fine ;#weaningnutrition;#weaningnutritionist;#childrensdietitian;#tinytotsnutrition🍎;#kidsdietitian;#kidsnutrition;#babynutritiontips;#weaningthursday
