The side-lying position is one of the most comfortable positions to try when you are exhausted or tired, after a c-section, during night feeding, and when your breast is heavy and full.
Here’s how to do it:

Start with placing your baby on the bed.
Lie down next to your baby in a comfortable position facing your baby.
Use a pillow to support your head and back to prevent any kind of aches.
Gently pull your baby close with him/her facing you.
Cuddle your baby well.
Now line your baby’s mouth with your nipples.
Support his/her head with one of your arms.
Guide your baby to latch onto your breast and suck.
Once the baby starts sucking, you can relax and continue feeding till he/she feels full.

Note: Make sure your back and hips are aligned in a straight line to prevent back pain.

@ Yes, gently pat on your baby's back to release excess air . The amount of air entering in your baby is less so just a gentle pat might be enough.
