#TheBigDebate The way teachers treat children in this country is deplorable.
Hey all, I just heard this news on TV over lunch about a 10th std girl jumping off a building and dying because her teacher/s scolded her. I googled the news and came across this link.
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/kerala-class-10-student-scolded-by-teacher-commits-suicide/1/1073159.html
There was some harassment/humiliation/punishment for sure, otherwise why would a 15 year old jump off a building??!!
This piece of news has really disturbed me. My questions to you today are:
i) Should teachers be allowed to reprimand, hit, beat up, humiliate, touch students, give them extreme corporal punishment in ways that students have to rush to the doctor or that they feel so humiliated that they can't come to school anymore?
ii) Shouldn't there be a law on teacher-student harassment and vice versa in cases where students are older?
iii) Shouldn't there be counselling for both students and teachers where teachers have an anger management issue and students have been hurt or bullied by teachers or other students?
iv) Laws against beating up students?
v) A parent committee who looks into these issues regularly?
Please speak up and share your thoughts. Every single day I read about how students are ill-treated by teachers across the country and I feel like screaming.
As parents, expecting parents and some of you who are teachers, please share your perspective and how you think we can get the laws & schools to be more compassionate towards our children.

In india ...leaving few...maximum schools don't have trained teachers...forget about having a councellor....n its also a truth that teachers also need money to survive. No one provides them free petrol and rashan pani cz they are teachers...so they go for highly paid schools. Schools with low budget hire undertrained...non trained teachers...which leads to more unprofessional teaching.
Schools can't pay as they can't increase fee....n there is a lot of black money n bribe involved in this business..schools are paying a huge sum as bribe (I know cz my grand father owned a school till l.k.g)
This all is so related.
I wish everyone stops this blame game and put everything in place.
Schools re the only place where we nurture our next generation. They should be handled with utmost love and care. Both parents and teachers...principal and board should be made answerable

Well i think first of all teachers dont have the right to touch the child.; Nor verbally insult the child.; Yes children can be difficult and sometimes drive the teacher crazy but i think a counsellor should then be involved in such situations to help out thw child and understand the reason for such behaviour . Also parents and principal should be kept in the loop regarding the childs behaviour .
There are certain teachers who enjoy harassing children . Such teachers should be removed or strict action should be taken by the princi and board against such; an educator.;

I agree....today everything is available to them for free....they r not learning to work hard to get a reward....peer pressure is too high....I want cz she/he has it...is a common sentence....arrogance is another problem...lack of guidance and supervision creates a different void! Suicide seems like an easy option. Fighting back needs courage....which they lack in them.
This should be addressed on a wider scale....lack in today's education system...There are many...but who is the ultimate sufferrer....Our kids...Our gen nxt

Dr.Dhanya Prajesh; yes its true....teachers can't even scold...I truly believe that a child wants to be understood and I always keep in touch with parents through wats app or phone or email even after school hours
Can u believe one parent complained that this teacher interfere during our personal time! N I just wats app that parent to talk to his child as I was observing that she is very upset since last few days.n she was not telling me nything 😐
I was told that I am mentally harassing the child by asking personal life questions and was issued a memo😑
