hi sharmishtha. when the government makes a universal immunisation plan they take into consideration the disease, risk factors, prevalence, cost implication etc and after due consideration have made some vaccines absolutely compulsory for every child and are provided by them. other vaccines are optional in the schedule and are giving to children as per probability of acquiring a particular infection and of course considering affordability as well. so all compulsory must be given and others should be discussed with your pediatrician who would know the child's history and can explain to you the need to give or avoid particular vaccine. vaccines are not harmful to the child's immunity. every child in India is exposed to multiple infections that are not covered by vaccinations and they do not interfere in the child's fighting power. in fact they protect children against illnesses that can be very severe and in some cases fatal.
