This is my article which I wrote for Momspresso. But I thought would share the same with our baby chakra moms community as it will be helpful for many moms who are struggling to feed their babies and are in oscillation on how to inculcate toddlers, the habit of eating on their own.
How to make your toddlers eat by themselves
This is a very common question and a difficult task. But it can be made easier and the key to teach your kids to eat all by themselves is to motivate them and carefully noticing signals to identify if they are ready to feed themselves.
Following are simple and practical ways to help your kid to feed themselves.
Try to find out if your child is ready to self-feed
The first thing that they learn is to grab food with their hands and put it in their mouth. Slowly, they progress and start holding finger foods and put them in their mouth all by themselves. If this is the case, your toddler is ready to self-feed. Most babies develop this skill between about seven and eleven months of age.
Start with easy and simple foods.
At first, stick to foods that dissolve easily in the mouth; by the toddler years, you can start offering many more foods.; Few foods that you can start with are finger foods, small pieces of ripe, soft fruits like bananas, mangos, peaches, or watermelon, small pieces of soft cooked vegetables etc.
Sit with your toddler.
Mealtimes are important part of your kid and take this chance to interact with your toddler and help them learn through demonstration. So do not just simply place the food in front of your toddler and walk away. Slowly help them learn to hold a spoon and eat as they grow.
Be prepared to handle the mess.

Toddlers are messy when it comes to eating. Don't try to get angry and ruin the practice of self-feeding. Instead try to minimize the damage by removing rugs or placing a protective cover underneath your child’s high chair, help them wear bibs etc.
Appreciate your kid.
All of us like to be appreciated. So don't forget to let your toddler know you are proud of his or her growing independence.
