This never use to happen before, I use to read news, would feel sad for a few minutes and then move on. 🙃
.
My brain wiring has changed now, everytime I see a news which is saddening/disheartening and somewhere relates to kids , I just can't stop thinking about it...🥺
.
My mom instinct starts to work double time. I start to question everything and everyone around me. It feels like if I could just hold her in my arms nothing bad would ever happen. If I could give her a million more kisses and just wrap my arms around her forever. ♥️
.
Everyday when I open a newspaper or try to read some news on my phone there has to be a bad news related to girls/kids/women etc. You get the gist. 😧
.
How do I prepare my kid for the outside world? Well, I am her mom and I have to make her strong enough to face the world head on. 🙂 what can I do to make sure that I don't instill this fear in her?
.
👉 Talk to them like an adult. I know it sounds bookish but believe me, kids are sensitive, intelligent, observant and they understand everything, if you talk to them properly.
.
👉 Calm yourself down first, you can only give what you have. If there are 10 bad things happening in the world there are 10 good things happening too, let's focus our energy there.
.
👉 Step up and do something about this. If you saw a news that something horrible happened to someone else's kid then make sure to spread the word about how can we stop happening it to other kids, not the pictures of videos of the incident. Be a part of solution.
.
👉 Don't forward the messages without reading it completely. You don't know the impact these "just a forward" can have on parents suffering from anxiety.
.
👉 Teach them self defence and let them have their own voice. Don't laugh or disregard when they share the details of their day with you. A minuscule thing like sharpening a pencil could be a huge thing for them, pay attention and praise, this helps in building their confidence.
.
👉 Teach them how to be vigilant not paranoid. Instructions doesn't work on kids, you have to make them understand why. I can tell my kid to not to take chocolate from a stranger but why helps her in being vigilant.
