This Kheer can be given to babies who are more than 1 year old as I have used honey in this. If one wants to give it to babies who are 10-12 months old, you can use jaggery. It's full of nutrition, can be a meal in itself and specially good for kids whose bowel movements are not settled (as rice and sabudana both help in binding the stomach). Also kids who are fussy in taking milk can be given this. Expressed breast milk and formulae milk too can be used to make this. Ingredients 2 cups milk
2 tbsp rice powder
2 tbsp soaked sabudana
1/2 tsp elaichi powder (for flavor so optional)
1 tbsp dry fruit powder
3 tbsp honey or 3 tbsp grated jaggery (gud) For making rice powder, wash the rice well with water 2-3 times and then sun dry it completely. Then make a powder by grinding it. You can even store it for later use in an airtight container. Make less quantity so that it is used in time before getting spoiled. If you want rice powder is also available in market. Soak the sabudana at least 5-6 hours before making the Kheer and strain it. Method 1. In a pan, heat milk and when one boil comes, let it reduce a bit on simmer. We don't want it to be very thick, so just 8-10 minutes reduction is enough. 2. Add sabudana and rice powder to this simmering milk and make sure you stir it continuously so that no lumps are formed. 3. Let it cook for 5-6 minutes till the sabudana, rises on top and becomes transparent. Also add elaichi and dry fruit powder. 4. Transfer the contents in another bowl and let this cool to the room temperature. Now add honey and mix well. If you are adding jaggery, then add when milk is still hot so that it dissolves well. Serve it in an attractive bowl for the kids. I made it yesterday for my daughter so am giving a picture!!
