What made me write this is an exploratory behavior of baby Reyan where he started biting us out of his extreme excitement while he was 17 months old. Though its completely termed normal at his age calling it a sensory exploration, it was a task for us to deal with it 🤦♀️🤦♂️
.
Well for all that you know, saying NO could turn counter-productive!!
So, what we did was to show him what we want him to do instead. Like say, telling him to give a gentle yet squeezy hug to his Grand Dad, which would rather soothe him and manage his overwhelming feelings 🤩
.
And to our surprise after few attempts of guiding his action and giving him lots of reinforcing smiles with encouragement, he did follow suit !! And their we had our happy victory moment 🏆
.
This observation and following deal made me understand that generally children ranged in the similar age group are on the cusp of learning communication and it is only best to use effective strategies such as positive guidance, distraction and soothing them when you encounter challenging behaviours 💁♀️💁♂️
.
Any of you have faced similar observation in your child ?? If so, how did you deal with it?? Would be great to hear your practice.. After all parenting is an art too and we all have our own crafted ways 👪👨👩👧
