We say Stress is not good for our health. It can shorten your life span. But do you know that stress can be a main cause for your unhealthy eating? Yes, it is true that when we are stressed we eat more sugar and carbs. This gives our body comfort for some time. The pain stress causes our body we try to dampen it with food. It is our body structure that is made to eat foods for extra calories.
Our ancestors were hunters. They usually lived in forests. So, it was natural to came across a bear or some predator. It was a fight and flight situation for their brains. And in any situation it was important that they have more fuel in their bodies. It was a stressful situation and their body's send signals to their brains to eat more calories and gain extra energy. Still our body is the same but there are no bears to fight. But our body doesn't understand this and gives our brain signal to eat. Why is that? First reason is intuitive. Chronic stress is dangerous for our body. So, the comfort foods that release Dopamine hormone rewards our body with pleasure. Under stress our body releases hormones through Hypothalamus pituitary adrenal pathway.
This pathway causes the release of stress hormone named CORTISOL.
This cortisol drives us to consume extra calories to fuel up our body to prepare for fight or flight. High fats,carbs and sugar dampen our stress.
That is why eating so much calories are making us gain weight. CAUSES OF STRESS * Lack of sleep

* Work load etc. It is a main cause of stress lack of sleep.
If you don't get enough sleep you may feel irritated, angry, frustrated that you will be less enthusiastic for your daily chores. It is important and really a need for every human being to get atleast 7 to 9 hours of sleep to feel refreshed. THINGS TO DO 1. Excersise everyone should do aerobics exercise like, walking, jogging, swimming for atleast 30 to 45 minutes daily in per week and cardio like, weight lifting, push-ups, etc. atleast half an hour 2 days in per week. Excersice will help your body to boost your metabolism to burn more calories. It is very important to do any physical activity while sitting for very long time in office, home anywhere. In every 1hour there should be some walking or push-ups anything you can try to do. 2. Meditation can relax your mind. It gives your body relaxing feeling and calmness it lacks. Meditation also gives you more insight on what your feelings are about your self. 3. Sleep atleast 7 to 9 hours. 4. Try to eat only healthy foods like whole grains, vegetables and fruits etc. 5.
