Hello...
Tooth extraction during pregnancy needs special consideration to avoid any harm to the unborn baby. So usually dentists avoid tooth extraction while pregnant. However, if the tooth is highly infected, non-restorable, and the infection is spreading then the dentist recommends tooth extraction.
Depending on the trimesters of pregnancy, the oral surgeon plans tooth extraction.. During the first trimester, organogenesis of the fetus occurs. As a result, the fetus is highly vulnerable to malformation of organs if the expecting mother experiences strain and stress while tooth extraction. So surgeons mostly postpone tooth extraction during the first trimester.. During the second trimester, fetal growth takes place. So the dentist considers the phase as a safe period to carry out tooth extraction and other necessary dental procedures.. During the third trimester, the expecting mother may find it difficult to sit in the dental chair in one position for hours. Also, bleeding during tooth extraction may increase, and it may prove harmful. So doctor postpones the operation or carries it out in the first month of the last trimester..
