Q:

my baby is 8 days old now and it is about 38degree c here.  so far I have kept the baby under the fan in room temp.  my doc says it is okay to put on the air con but my baby has been sneezing and I don't want to risk a cold. could you please suggest if the baby is too hot or cold?

hi sumaira - which city are u in? its better to put aircon on but one needs to also ensure baby is covered properly. But if she is sneezing then better to avoid AC. if baby is sweating and looking uncomfy and crying then the heat cud be bothering her. Sheeba Vijesh pls help suggest!

hi sumira.... does your baby have blocked or running nose? is it occasional sneezing? if its just once in a while, then its not cold... it is nature's gift to baby to keep her nose clean... a overheated baby is a big no-no... the general rule is to dress baby in one layer of cloth more than what you would be comfortable in, but the rising heat makes us want to strip n***ed... so if you are keeping her under fan, make sure she is not sweating, is sleeping comfortably... make her wear loose cotton clothes and do not use thick blankets ... are you bathing or sponging her?

hi sumira, you can cover the baby from heat to toe while on ac. if the baby is sneezing just once or twice then it's fine as Sheeba said, it's nature's gift to clean the nose. My lo is born on 16march and I am from Delhi, and I have no choice rather than to on the ac, but I have always cover her from head to toe. if I am using one blanket then I make sure that she will be covered with two. And touchwood she is doing great under the ac.

although everyone out here has given great advices.. one thing you can do is keep the Ac on room temperature that is 25-26..this will help you to ease your problem..
