Q:

I was told that once the baby feeds,  I must put him to sleep sideways (after burping)  .  he doesn't always burp but does start hicupping now and then. he falls asleep soon after.  is this normal?  also how long am I supposed to make him sleep on his side?

dont make baby sleep sideways... hicupping is normal... hold baby upright for 15 -20 minutes after feeding even if he burps or not, and then make sleep on back... when you are near to supervise, you can put baby on tummy... this will prevent and cure gas... here are some burping techniqueshttp://app.babychakra.com/feedpost/4238

hi sumira u shouldn't put baby to sleep sideways. babies should always be put to sleep on their back. as its the safest position for them. hiccups are normal.

Burp sound is not important. Just holding the baby in an upright position for three to five minutes is enough. The best position for baby to sleep in is on the back. However if the baby has reflux then the doctor will advise sleeping on the side for a short time after a feed. Hiccups just mean the stomach is full and the baby needs a burp. It's normal.
