Q:

Dr , how much milk does my baby need at this stage : 60

Ml per feed is enough ? (4 kg baby, 7 days old)? I am expressing and feeding her currently and wondering whether to top up at all..

Dear Anonymous, 60ml per feed is good to start with. Observe your child & go with his/her cues. If the child is still demanding milk, you will need to top up. After a 60ml feed, burp the child, then see if the child is still hungry. cues would typically be suckling of hand, moving towards your breast. Additionally, If you are able to express milk, latch well, you must breast feed your child as the child will give you cues on the breast when his/her tummy is full.
