Welcome to Babychakra! Happy to help.

How old is your baby?

HI Durva,

Between 12- 18 months the amount of day time sleep is reduced to between 1 to 2 hours a day. Th majority of time toddlers sleep is during the night time. By 18 months the day time nap should be only for 1 -2 hours to ensure the toddler is sleeping well in the night.

Between 12 - 24 months typical day would look similar to the following , although adaptations will have to sometimes be made with sleep, depending upon social activities.

7/7:30 am : Awake, milk feed followed by breakfast.
9:30 am : Short nap of 15/30 mins, gradually eliminated by 18 months.
11.45 / noon : Lunch
12:30 / 1 pm : Nap time - no more than 2 hours
5 pm / Evening : Snack
Sleep time: per time you set.

If you have established a routine for the child, you will notice that the child's time of morning naps will reduce and eventually stop and the child will get over tired and will want to sleep in the night time. It is also very important that you try and wind down everything for the child to have a peaceful sleep. If surroundings are noisy or disturbed, the child won't get sleep. You may want to massage and bathe the child before sleep too to relax the toddler.

If you toddler is still needing to be fed to sleep and wakes several times a night refusing to settle back to sleep without feed, it is important that you look very closely at the day time feeding before embarking on any form of sleep training. So your endeavour should be to better the day time feeding so the child doesn't get u hungry in the night.

Is your toddler sleeping a lot during the day which is why she is up during nights?

1 n half yr baby is baby elder enuf to understand the bed tym routine..set it
for ur baby. try to play with her during day tym n make her understand that at nite u have to sleep. by doing some of activities u can set her nite forexample:

giving your baby a bath
changing her into her pyjamas
reading her a bedtime story
singing her a lullaby
giving her a gentle massage
kissing her goodnight.
close doors n windows
cuddle her alot while sleeping..make it a stress free tym.
don't irritate her so much...make sure she had her dinner properly. m sure this things will help her to sleep

oh u mention it early.Making more activities at day and less day sleep, making sound atmosphere at her bed time with light music n stories.also make her tummy satisfied and avoid heavy n gasy food at night.also many helpful article on babychakra are available about this.
