Im experiencing severe morning sickness n drowziness throughout the day im 7 weeks and its my first im very nervous was earlier on medication for anxiety and depression but discontinued my meds few months back..im mentaly finding it difficult to cope up with this new change in my life n body..thou im very happy too that finally after 7 yrs of marriage im getting what i n my husband waited for..another thing that bothers me is im married into a gujrati family n the pregnant woman is not allowed to wash her hair for 7months until baby shower..im jus not comfertable with this practice its taking a peace of my mind im scared to not follow but liberal that its all superstition..tried dry shampoo too but din work..plz help im jus sulking i feel

Hi anon.. first of all congratulations. This is a beautiful phase. You are gonna miss it after some time. Try to involve yourself to keep your mind diverted. You can spend your time on the app also, interact with fellow preggers. Do do eat healthy and stay healthy. about washing your hair, I think you can wash them, just make them understand.

Hi morning sickness happens due to the changes in hormones. This should settle between week 12-16. However if you are unable to hold anything then you should discuss the same with your gynac and take medications for the same. Feeling drowsy is very normal as the body needs rest as it develops a new human being so relax. Regards the hair washing, this is something that is a superstition but we cannot advise anything more than that. It will be up to you and your husband to decide how you want to deal with it. There are three alternatives either be open and refuse to follow or accept it and follow the ritual. I have also heard that there are some sandalwood based powders which are applied in such cultures and that makes the hair feel very normal. The third option I would not recommend as it means hiding and following what you wish. If something does go wrong and even if it is not due to this you would always blame yourself. Mood swings are very normal so do try and occupy yourself with things you enjoy and don't dwell on things which are not so important.

Hi, firstly many congratulations! The first trimester can be rough due to the hormonal changes. You mentioned you stopped taking meds for anxiety and depression. Always consult your doc before starting or stopping medication as a sudden stop can cause a fluctuation that the body was not prepared for. Your doctor would have a way of weaning you off it with the right amount of dosage. And sometimes even during pregnancy, if there is high anxiety or depression they put you under safe medications which won’t interfere with the pregnancy. If you feel you still have bouts post the 1st trimester do talk it out with a professional. Therapy is very helpful in equipping you with healthy coping strategies.
Secondly, as an adult you always have a choice to follow or accept a certain ritual but that decision you will need to take with your husband.
