Q:

hello..delivered baby last week but due to my nipple shape baby is not sucking properly...I have to use nipple shield to feed baby..please suggest if there is any harm in doing this and what to do if baby is not tak8ng my milk without using nipple shield. thanks

Babies do find it a little difficult to latch with a flat or inverted nipple. Support the breast and also use a V shape with your fingers to help form a nipple. You may need to hold this all thru a feeding. You can also see a Lactation specialist for help. The challenge with nipple shield is sterilising before every use and also baby gets used to it and hence may refuse to take the breast.

I also had same problem .dr.suggested not to use nipple sheild bcoz its made up with plastics.first u try to feed directly, if cries too much then only use nipple sheild.my baby left it ( nipple sheild) completely within 4 to 5 days.

Hi, i also had this problem and baby would cry with frustration, but I kept trying and both of us learnt the 'art' of bf. It has been a most satisfying journey for the baby and me...

don't gv up..gv as much feeding time as possible.. sum babies to time to catch up
