Hi Mam, what is the best age to start a kid with a school and what should a parent look for in the first interaction so that they know whether the school is good or not?..

Swati Rajoria

Starting a school for your child has to be age appropriate. As per the Indian Goverment Resolution it is min 3 yrs for Nursery.

Thanks Mam..just one more thing, schools these days usually have batches like morning or afternoon..which batch should one try to enroll the child in?

Depends on your choices...ur convinience is the reason. If you are a working mom the time choice helps you decide your daily schedule. Whatever it may be doesn't change the learning pattern. Making ur child regular at school is where all the effort is needed. Learning shud be fun when it comes to the preschool age.

As for your first interaction- a lot can be learnt abt a school.
Most preschools offer you a welcome visit to join in a session. Be observant. If you find happy children and think its safe...go with your gut feeling.
However there is a list of things that you can consider.
Location, Transport, Value for money.
School's philosophy, teachers qualification, teacher-student ratio, what kind of fine motor and gross motor activities are offered? Is the approach child centric?, Is the atmosphere exciting? Is it safe for your child? Are parents involved and regularly updated? What is their discipline policy? How does the school address social emotional issues?
