Q:

my baby plays very well from morning but during night he keeps on crying.. i burp him, feed him and take him on my shoulder in upright position atleast for 15-20 mins but even then he cries. if i apply some coconut oil to his stomach and put colicaid then he gets relief. but I'm worried if this will continue their should be some problem with crying only during night. please mommies give your suggestions.

Kamalini Rao I understand the crying...the baby seems to have separation anxiety at night...my baby used to cry hard every night and I have also given colicaid drops for around 15days...we started singing and talking to her every night when she used to cry, me and my husband used to sing for her calmly and after 5-10 min she used to get diverted... during the day we used to talk to her about being happy...not crying, how much we love her etc...it took almost a month and she settled... babies cry for many reasons...not always because of colic...you can start giving her massage at night and talk to her that time...play with her and stay happy and calm.... mother's can do wonders...talk to her pediatric as well...

hi kamalini, crying daily at a particular time is colic. even after burping etc, babies do get gas, blame it on the still developing digestive system. colic usually subsided after 3 months. give baby plenty if tummy time during when she is awake and also while sleeping, you can put her on tummy, but - BE CAREFUL. never leave baby on tummy while you are not around or when you are sleeping as baby does not have head control yet. also apply hing water around baby's navel, massage around navel in clockwise motions and move baby:s legs in bicycle motions, that is press knee to chest one by one. another home remedy is mentioned on my page, which you can try if you wish  ;http://app.babychakra.com/feedpost/4271

hi kamalini - i'm not sure colic aid can be given to such a small baby. pls try applying a paste of hing on baby's bellybutton - it is an effective home remedy to release gas.

Kamalini Rao

hi Sheeba and asha, please tell me clearly on how to  use hing paste. just adding water to Hong to form a paste and massaging baby's navel? when  can i give this, after/before feed? and how many times in a day.. please advice

Sheeba Vijesh

heat a little water and add a bit of hing to it so that it dissolves. let it cool to a warm temperature comfortable for baby's skin. this can be applied as often as needed...

Kamalini Rao

thanks sheeba will try and let you know..
