Q:

my baby had his 2nd vaccination today. he is crying like hell though we have babygesic drops. are there any other ways to sooth him.. someone please advise..

Jyoti Rohra

rub ice cube in place of injection

Sheeba Vijesh

nowadays doctors advise not to rub ice, although some doctors say to apply... i never applied... Kamalini Rao baby will cry, just comfort him by holding him close and say soothing words to him... sing gently to him.... vaccinations are tough for babies, and tougher for moms... but we both get stronger from it... take care dear...

sheeba is der s any side effect of rubbing ice cube

Akanksha

as Sheeba Vijesh said, doctor might suggest putting ice pack on the vaccinated area, my pediatrician had suggested to put Ice pack n not rub ice directly... even though I didn't need to apply. it differs from doctor to doctor. babies will cry after vaccination, its new for them n a strange experience.. distract his mind by taking him out for a walk, showing trees n all, singing a song or so, my baby used to enjoy car ride back home after vaccination, n it would soothe her a lot. all the best :)

Jyoti Rohra actually i didn't think about asking my doctor why he said so, but many moms on babychakra were also advised not to rub ice... i think maybe its because ice will lessen the speed of absorption of the medicine as it will lower the temperature at the injection site... this is my guess...

yes.. my doc also said nt to apply anything.. just give medicines whatever is prescribed.. and hold your baby close to you.. love him..
