I.am.breastfeeding my baby and my nipples have become extremely sore and achy.. how to reduce the achiness ?

Sheeba Rizvi

it happens while exclusive breastfeeding....clean it before n after every feed...apply boroline after feeding.....keep changing the side don't feed only from one side....ask doctor she will give you safe ointment you can apply that as well...take care dear

Hi! Ensure you are feeding correctly. Baby should latch on  entirely and not just nipple. You can apply nipcare cream for soreness. Please read through BreastFeeding Tutorials, Breastfeeding Tips and much more on our App

what worked fr me ws applying some breastmilk onto nipples, keeping nipple area dry in between feeds. also avoid wearing a bra at night.

@ sheeba:- but boroline can be consumed by baby na? its not gud to have boroline i think. nipcare cream is speciially for breasts for bf moms. so dont use boroline use nipcare cream.

it's normal in initial days.. apply bm on the nipples.. clean the nipples after every feed..

what priya said. if u r sore, it means the baby is not latching correctly. make sure u r comfortable with straight back. keep a pillow on lap for additional support. make sure the full aerola goes in the mouth. u can use breast milk n apply on nipple and let it air dry. that also is known to give relief and can use cream to reduce soreness

Dr. Mugdha Joshi

If your nipples are hurting then most common cause is a shallow latch. Baby holding the nipple in the mouth and suckling does not mean he is latched well. He needs to be positioned well such that the lower portion of the aerola ( black circular portion around the nipple) goes in. It's a myth that pain will breastfeeding in the beginning is normal. Breastfeeding is never painful. U can apply Calendula pomade ( SBL ) for healing. Keep breast exposed as drying helps in healing. But most important , take help for correcting the latch.

I am.using the nipcare cream as advised by my gynaecologist but my major problem seems to be a big areola and the baby cannot take the entire portion in..
