Come Alive Rhyme series: Pat- A – Cake

While I picked my little girl from her playschool, she seemed to be very happy and singing. I asked her what was she singing and she told something which took me a minute to understand. Yes, It was a rhyme Pat-A-cake. I asked her did you bake cakes in your school? She replied with a grin, “no mamma, teacher only showed us the pictures”. I was like, poor girl, “I shall make them for you”. She started singing again and we continued.

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Pat it and prick it and mark it with a “B”
And put it in the oven for baby and me 

We got home, freshened up, munched on snacks and the tired little monster didn’t take much time to doze off. While she slept, I thought it would be a great idea to surprise her with the Pat-A-Cake set-up.

Being an occasional baker, it wasn’t a difficult task for me arranging the cake pans and the moulds. I made the bakers hat with a felt sheet and arranged all of them on a table with the microwave oven in the background. I used her black boards to mention the name “Shroff’s patisserie” and a menu board. I also quickly drew out some muffins and placed them on the muffin mould. I neatly spread the tools on one side and moulds on the other with the cake pan at the center. It wasn’t so professional but that was the most I could gather to surprise my cuppie.

She woke up and was overwhelmed to see the set-up. She started asking me what was this, that and a series of questions followed. She happily sang and baked a series of cakes and served all of us. It couldn’t get cuter with my little chef having fun her way.

It would have just taken me an hour to set this up, but the joy and the contentment that you get to see in your kids enjoy is total bliss!
