Just confirmed the ‘’good news’’ with your gynecologist? Congratulations! You are about to embark on a roller coaster ride!! So… tie your seat belts and look into the future for the most amazing journey.

Anger, joy, anxiety, frustration, my pregnancy had it all. I am sure your emotional graph will also have its peaks and troughs while you are pregnant. But the growing tummy is a constant reminder that it will not last forever and making the most of it is the best possible way to sail through it smoothly.
While you wait for the big day, let me share with you a few stories from the big bunch of experiences on my journey to motherhood so that you are more prepared to handle it more smartly than I did.

Nutrition

Nausea had come to be my best friend in the first trimester, dropping in each time for a casual visit, each time my mom churned out some yummy fare.  For me, it used to be days, before I could eat a full meal. Cucumber was my only survival instinct. A plateful made tangy with lemon juice and I was good to go for a few hours. I concluded that it is best to eat when you really feel like it. I understand how difficult it is, for the family to see you skipping meals and dealing with morning sickness, but succumbing to the pressure of loading oneself with food may lead to greater sickness. Trust me, your urge to eat would pick up as pregnancy progresses!

Physical care

Sleeping-eating-sleeping seemed like the best thing to do by the time I reached my third trimester, but lest I felt like a sloth, I dragged myself out for that daily dose of fresh air. A bright pair of walking shoes did the trick. What is your trick?
Cramps and aches left me high and dry every now and then. Getting up and sitting down were usually accompanied by oohs and aahs. A blissful massage always came to my rescue during these moments. I sorely miss that lady who used to drop in every few days to give me a great massage session.

Indulge

I indulged in some really cutesy tasks like decorating the wall in the baby room. I put my ‘mulmul’ dupattas to good use by getting some soft and comfortable clothes stitched for the baby. Since I was crazy about a name, I looked up hundreds of them on the internet and read up couple of books to boast of a unique one. Trust me, nothing gives as much pleasure as indulgence.

Emotional well being

We had figured out what we were getting into. Before, the baby played the boss (she still is), we sneaked as much us-time as we could. A movie, a midnight snack, a drive after dinner, to name a few coping mechanisms, kept us on track. While your physical and hormonal changes may take a toll on your sexual desire, but you could work out your own comfort while you are at it.

Confide

With changes coming in at breakneck speed, I used to miss the old and nimble me and usually called up my bestie to blurt out all that had been simmering inside. I took a deep breath hence and things were sunny again. How blessed I was to have a friend who had great ears. Well, a sister, mother, husband or anyone else could also fit the bill. Find yours soon.

Take free advice with a pinch of salt

During both my pregnancies, my neighborhood aunties were busy noting the shape of my tummy, and declared that it is going to be a boy, both the times. The first time round, I crazily wanted a girl and the second time around, I wanted a sister for my elder one. Guess what, I am blessed with two girls. How easy it was to fall trap to those old wives’ tales, but thankfully, common sense and belief in my instincts prevailed. For times that it did not prevail, my doc came in handy.

So, though it may not be easy at all times, it would be over sooner than you imagine. While you are at it, make enough memories to laugh at, together with your kids.

Pave the most beautiful journey for a lifetime experience called Motherhood! Wish you all the best!
