Every mother has to bring out her ‘never-seen-before’ self to raise her child the best way. However, some really set examples for others to follow. We bring you stories of some celebrity women who have made bold moves by taking the ‘less-chosen-paths’ and yet have been happy, doting mothers!

1. Raveena Tandon

Known for her bubbliness, Raveena Tandon was a career-oriented actress of her time and has been successful in her own right. As a single woman, she adopted two girls, Pooja and Chhaya, in 1995 and has been responsible for them ever since. Her courtship and subsequent marriage to film distributor Anil Thadani, did not, in any way affect her relationship with the two girls. Raveena has two children from marriage, a daughter named Rasha and a son named Ranbir. Raveena got both her adoptive daughters married in an elaborate ceremony, in recent years.
Raveena is known not just for being objective, smart, and supremely talented and committed, but also not afraid of being her own person and making edgy life choices, no matter the consequences.

2. Sushmita Sen

The former Miss Universe has made us proud in more than one way. She is a role model of sorts for women who want to have children but not necessarily after marriage.
The lady has always been heard saying,” I don’t need a man in my life to have diamonds. I can own them myself” and do we agree!
At a time when her career was at its peak, she decided to adopt two children Renee and Alisah, a decision that was not welcomed with open arms by society. That has not deterred the tall and beautiful star from raising her daughters the way she does.
Sush’s Mantra: Being a single parent can be really tough, but it is not impossible. The best way to handle your kids’ innocent questions is to be truthful to them and you will definitely earn their respect.

3. Carol Gracias

Carol Gracias, wowed us all recently, by walking the ramp and showing off her baby bump in a saree. The supermodel, who is heavily pregnant, was asked by the designer to walk the ramp and she thought, why not? “So, I gave it a thought, and realized that the clothes to be showcased are meant for all kinds of women. I thought if the designer would like me in his show, then why not? I really enjoyed the experience”. Kudos to supermodels who have chosen to celebrate their motherhood on the ramp rather than take a “break”.

4. Neena Gupta

Neena Gupta, now 60, was a popular actress of her time. Her courtship with one of the finest cricketers of all times, Vivian Richards, resulted in a child, whom the actress decided to bring into the world.

Neena has done all her best as an independent single parent to give her daughter, Masaba, a secure life. And Masaba too seems to have inherited her mother’s genes on individuality. She is a well-known fashion designer and is known to maintain relations with her father as well.

Like every mom, Neena’s daughter means a lot to her.

5. Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan dons many-a-hats, right from interior designer to running the production house to being star wife, with élan. But that is not why we admire her. Gauri and Shahrukh’s youngest son, AbRam was born through surrogacy. While the unconventional method made headlines owing to the star couple, it also helped create awareness on the issue and helped demystify the subject.
