Expert Tips on How To Deal With Smog

New Delhi’s air pollution has hit dangerous levels. Many people in the city are complaining of irritation in the eyes and breathing problems because of the smog. It is essential to take care of yourself to deal with the hazardous situation.

Rujuta Diwekar has shared some tips to beat the smog –

Soonth, Gul and Ghee ke bite size laddoo

How: Take equal amounts of dry ginger, jaggery and ghee, mix it well and roll it into small balls.

When: Start and end your day with one. Also helpful to have one after you have returned home after spending long time outdoors.

Benefits: It prevents inflammation and flu, keeps sinuses clear and smoothens digestion

Sugarcane

How: You can either chew on it and spit the fibre out (in the correct places of course) or drink it like a fresh juice.

When: It should preferably be taken with a mid meal, eaten before noon.

Benefits:  It cleanses and helps detoxify the liver. The micronutrient boosts the immune system. It also helps beat lethargy and low moods due to smog.

Milk, Kesar, Haldi and Soaked Sabja

How: Heat milk and add kesar and haldi while still on the boil. Add 1tsp of Soaked sabja or tulsi seeds after you pour it in a cup. You can also add powdered jaggery to taste.

Benefits: Volatile oils from kesar prevent skin and hair damage. Sabja or Tulsi seeds can beat infections, allergies and bloating. Haldi and milk is a potent and well known recovery and anti-inflammatory combo.

Other Tips

  • Don’t give up on exercise, just shift it to indoors
  • Stay well hydrated
  • Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and carotene supplements are helpful in these situations
