With pregnancy comes several responsibilities which keep piling on you, making you realise the importance of taking responsibility. This becomes even harder after you are blessed with your little angel. You have to change everything—from your schedule to your way of life.

You have to first think of your baby and his/her needs, and well, you start to learn new things. From learning to feed your baby to maintaining their body hygiene, you learn everything in one way or other.

Maintaining your baby’s nails is a difficult task and many mums may not be aware of the correct way(s) to do the same. Newborns tend to have much softer and fast-growing nails in comparison to a normal adult, and hence, one needs to be extremely careful when it comes to maintaining them.

It’s very important to keep your baby’s nails short, as unaware of muscle control, their body can make them easily scratch their own skin even when they are simply waving their hands or feet.

Now, as difficult as it sounds, it is not at all difficult if you do it properly. Here, we have for you 3 of the many safest ways to help you maintain your baby’s nails.

1. File them

The easiest way to shorten your baby’s nails is to file them down with an emery board—yes, a special one built specifically for such purposes. Although this way takes more time than any other method, it’ll be worth your time in the end. But be careful to not to file the tender skin hidden beneath the nail or it may become problematic.

2. Use the best baby nail clipper

There are several nail clippers present in the market that are specially designed for trimming a baby’s nails, that too in a very comfortable manner. But, how do you use it? Start with clipping his/her nails as your own, tenderly pushing the fingertip back from the nail. This will help in preventing you from cutting the skin around their finger. For clipping toenails, start by keeping a firm hold on your baby’s foot.

3. Clip when they are asleep

If you are too terrified to cut your baby’s nails while they are awake, wait for him/her to fall asleep. If you’re fortunate enough, you’ll be able to cut their nails without waking them. This task requires an adequate amount of light, so make sure of this.

A number of parents bite or nibble on their baby’s nails in order to shorten them, which is not at all recommended, as while doing so, it can introduce germs and leave your baby’s nails rough and sharp at the edges, along with the danger of you biting into the baby’s skin. Therefore, following the proper steps will help you maintain your baby’s nails in the safest way.
