Colors play an important role in a child’s life.  Colors are the  first  noticeable attributes of the world. Research says, a new born baby can only see primarily in the shades of black, grey and white. Isn’t that really an astounding?

By three months of the age babies are able to see colors, especially bright ones and they stimulate their brain’s sensory receptors.Around the age of 6-8 months, a baby’s color vision is well developed and colors play a vital role in cognitive development of a baby.

It is during this time that you should introduce different color patterns into your child’s nursery to start capitalizing on the benefits of color recognition for your toddler.

Few researchers suggest that colors influence the behavior of your baby, stimulate the brain and body and even affect your little one’s health. And it also improves sleeping habits and increase memory power.

How can you bring colors into your child’s routine?

One of the best ways to help your baby learn to understand colors is to have bright colors dominate their rooms. As opposed to having pastels and neutral colors with your decor, vibrant colors such as red, pink, blue and green could help. This way you are not only creating a beautiful space, but also making a great way to your child’s development.

Books are a great option too, especially those that have colored themes. Help your kid point out the tcolors in the books and pictures.

In toddlers and preschoolers, coloring activities encourage color awareness. Using different colors gives children an opportunity to explore different combinations and let them see how they can change the appearance of the picture. It is also great for gaining awareness of the lesser known colors.

Flash cards are another exciting way to learn colors. For example, let your toddler match same colored items together. Ask your toddler to collect the objects of the same color and then ask him/ her to draw them in a color picture book.

You can start teaching colors right from the platter of food you offer to your kids. As you serve the different foods, introduce the food along with their colors.  For example, you can tell them green vegetables, white rice, brown bread, yellow lentil soup. Etc.

Another way is to introduce the concept of colors is through songs and rhymes. Children tend to remember rhymes easily as it provides a practical example at certain extent.
