As your little one starts to get older, your life seems to come to a standstill. Routine absorbs you and you lose yourself in the rut of everyday. Many mothers find it harder to remain happy and some even fall prey to depression. It is not always easy to bring the love back into life but it isn’t impossible. Here are 4 simple ways to be a happier mom:

1. Make time for yourself

It is a given that motherhood is a full time job, one that has commitments every hour of every day. But, you ought to make time for yourself if you are to look after the brood. Take a walk or read a book, anything that will cut down on the noise and put you at ease. You constantly feel drained out with all the work that you do, it is time to unwind. Being on your own for just a little while and doing something you love will not bring the world to an end. Take some time away from being a mummy and be yourself.

2. Don’t Sweat It!

Mothers give motherhood their best and in doing so, set bars that are sky high. Not being able to do everything, everyday makes them feel inadequate, like nothing they do is ever good enough. You need to combat competition. Yes, you heard right! Stop competing with other moms. Do what you can do and do it the best. What someone else is doing shouldn’t be on your agenda. Just like every person is different, so is each parenting experience, unique. Do not depress yourself over impossible feats you try in vain to accomplish!

3. Bring Friends back on the menu

Don’t forget, being a mum does not mean that you cannot have a social life. Call your girlfriends, better yet, meet them! Making time for them could be a challenge so include them in your day to day activities, a kid’s playdate, a family dinner, whatever strikes you as being the best way to spend some quality time with them. Friends could be your bright light at end of a very dark tunnel.

4. Pursue Your Passion

Are you an artist? A dancer? A singer? Go ahead and do what you love to do. Do not let motherhood hold you back from being who you really are. Share your love of something, unabashedly, with your kids and let them be a part of it too. Nothing is more fulfilling than embracing your true self.

Happiness is all that really matters. You are a fantastic mother, there’s no reason you shouldn’t smile. Be happy, no matter what the circumstance.
