Delicious Homemade Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe


For Marination:

  • Chicken 500 gm
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Curd 3 tbsp
  • Haldi powder ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste


For Gravy:

  • Ghee plus 2 + 1 tsp ghee
  • Onion 1 medium chopped
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Tomatoes pureed 2 med
  • Tomato paste 2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder 2 tbsp ( as per your taste)
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Haldi powder 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala powder ½ tsp
  • Sugar 2 tsp
  • Kasuri methi 1 tsp
  • Cream 1/4 cup
  • salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves
  • Capsicum 1 cut into cube
  • Onion 1 cut into cube
  • Ginger 1 tsp finely chopped


  • Marinate the chicken in the above mentioned ingredients overnight or for about 4 hours.
  • Heat a pan and add 2 tbsp ghee. Fry marinated chicken on high heat till brown on both sides and keep aside.
  • In the same pan, saute onion till soft and brown. Add ginger and garlic pastes and mix well.
  • Add all the spices. Stir on a low flame for about a minute. Pour 1/4 cup of water and cook till water gets dry.
  • Add the tomato paste. Stir well for about 5 mins.
  • Add in pureed tomatoes and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  • Blend the masala till smooth.
  • Pour it back to the pan and add 1 cup of water.
  • Add the fried chicken pieces along with sugar and salt. Cover and cook for  15 minutes on a low heat.
  • Add onion, capsicum ginger and crushed kasuri methi.
  • Pour in cream, coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Finally add a tsp of ghee. Mix, let it come to a boil and  switch off flame.


Chicken tikka masala is ready. Enjoy with biryani or garlic naan
