Winters are fast approaching and with them so are the winter illnesses. Whenever we talk about winter illnesses, the most common one that comes to mind is cold and cough. For most of the people, cold and cough are more like a seasonal habit that they just have to bear. But, although an adult’s body and immune system can handle it well, a child’s body, however, is still in developing phase. Thus, it becomes even more important that the little ones are protected from the cold. But, giving medicines every time they get ill can harm the child in the long run. And so, it is important that you try to use as many natural ways as possible but in limited amount and only after understanding them. To help you in treating your little one’s cold in the all-natural ways, we have made a list of some ways you can use.

1. Honey

Honey is medically one of the most important naturally occurring substance in the world. It has a tonne of medical benefits and is added in a lot of things. But, just honey itself is seen to have been very effective against coughing and gives the throat a soothing effect. Having honey will save your little one from the bitter taste of the cough medicines and the baby can have as much honey as s/he wants to have.

2. Garlic

A vegetable that has been seen to work wonders for a sore throat or even cold is garlic. With its healing properties, garlic has been used as a medicine in ancient times for multiple things. Even in these current times, trace amounts of garlic are put in medicines to improve their healing effect. It contains a compound called allicin which has been known for its antibacterial properties.

3. Fluids

Water is not only essential to sustain life but is also responsible for a lot of healing and microbes removal effects. Being the true nectar of life, water contains a multitude of essential nutrients that the human body absorbs. And since during cold you tend to have a fluid loss, it is important that you keep up the supply.

4. Gargling

Another tried and tested method that helps ease the throat and also provides a temperature balance to the entire body is gargling. When you gargle with hot water, you help relax the muscles in your throat while also helping the mucus go down to the stomach. And by adding a pinch of salt to the water, you can escalate the healing almost 3 fold.

5. Steam and warm baths

Suffering from cold is basically your body’s mechanism of dealing with the sudden change in outside temperature and balancing it out. By taking steam and warm baths you can help the body gradually ease into the temperature difference. This will definitely ease your little one’s nose and illness.
