As parents, it is critical to teach children to be understanding, accepting, and nonjudgmental of others’ views, as well as to respect all faiths, regardless of their upbringing. And the most important thing we can teach our kids is to not forget our roots, values, and culture. This education begins at home and there are no better teachers than parents!

Bollywood actors, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza are one of Bollywood’s most perfect couples. They are also proud parents to two adorable sons; six-year-old Rahyl, and four-year-old Riaan Deshmukh,

They may be Bollywood’s most celebrated couple, but the two have nailed down the parenting strategies to the tee. When it comes to their sons, they are hands-on parents. They also believe in delegating duties if they must.

Take a look at these instances that prove that Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh’s kids are deeply rooted in our Indian values and culture.

1. Children Follow Both Their Religions
Genelia is a devout Christian who attends Mass every Sunday. She is married to a Maharashtrian Hindu family but also continues to practice her former religion.

In an interview with The Times of India, Genelia stated that Every Wednesday, she makes it a point to do the Novena at St. Michael’s Church in Mahim.

She also attends Sunday Mass on a regular basis, and whenever the family is together, they say the rosary every evening. Her relationship with God is conversational, and she believes prayer is quite powerful, so she says the Blessed Sacrament before each of her shots.

In several interviews, Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh have mentioned how they do not enforce any kind of religion over their kids. They have taught their children about the power of the divine and to respect all religions.

The couple has successfully managed to bring their kids up with great respect for the diversity of religious beliefs. However, the religious aspects aren’t the only ones we must consider, adding on to this, we also see how the kids have been brought up in a caring and loving environment, where they’ve most definitely learned to give and earn the respect for elders.

2. Teaching The Kids To Show Respect In True Indian Style

The above two videos show how the couple’s two kids, join their hands and express their gratitude to the paparazzi. Ritesh and Genelia always ask their children to thank the media persons. They are always seen folding their hands to say ‘namaste’ whenever they have been photographed by the paparazzi.

That’s something rare when most children today would have a more western approach and say an easy “Hi!” or “Hello!” All credit goes to Riteish and Genelia.

3. Introducing Their Kids To Indian History

In another heartwarming instance, Riteish Deshmukh is seen teaching his kids about the Father of our nation, expressing his respect for the man. His kids are heard saying “Gandhiji is bigger than all of us!”

4. Taking The Children Back To Their Roots

While most celebrities were heading abroad for holidays during the lockdown, Riteish and Genelia chose to take their two sons to spend time in their native village. The family spent close to three months in their village and lived the village life.

While Genelia grew up in the city, Ritiesh got to experience both the city and village life as well. So the two did not want their kids to miss out on the village experience and they sure seem to have enjoyed it, studying under the shade of the tree!

5. Their Sons Call Them Baba & Aai
Most kids today call their parents mummy, daddy, or even mum and dad. But not the Deshmukh juniors! Riteish and Genelia’s two boys have been taught to call their parents Aai and Baba which in Maharashtrian means mother and father.

Rahyl and Riyaan can often be heard calling them Aai and Baba on the social media videos that their parents Ritiesh and Genelia post of them.

We believe there’s no harm in adopting cultures from around the world, but it’s refreshing to see how well versed Ritiesh and Genelia’s kids are in our Indian culture and traditions.
