Brands apart, street fashion in Delhi can allure shopaholic women, without a doubt! If you are in India’s Capital City and are a mother of a toddler, you must not miss the great deals, exhaustive bargaining, global designs and a lot more at Delhi’s street shopping markets.

Here, we take a sneak peek into top shopping destinations for Mom and toddler.

Sarojini Nagar:

I would say, this is a shopper’s paradise! It’s a market place in South of Delhi, comprising of 3 main markets: Babu Market, Sabzi Market and the Central Market. The varieties of design and color options that you get here is fascinating -Skirts and frocks, t-shirts of all colors and sizes. You get beautiful dresses for kids here. Night suits are something to die for as you will not get this elsewhere. Skirts and dresses of all designs for women are ample, especially if you are looking for a wraparound skirt. You can always top it up with accessories, for which you will find all varieties in all budgets here! Even for kids, you get hair accessories like hairbands and clips.

SAROJINI NAGAR MARKET
You also get awesome funky jackets and coats, mufflers and caps and a whole range of cardigans and pullovers for the chilly Delhi winters!! Hand gloves for your li’l munchkin is also available. Toys of all kinds and ranges draw attention -teddies and dolls in all sizes.

Central Market, Lajpat Nagar:

This again, is an awesome place which spoils you for choices. You can buy anything from simple clothing to gorgeous party wear – unstitched and stitched clothes and bed linen and towels too!! In terms of footwear, it has got a wide range of ‘chappals’, sandal, boots and mojris etc… all sizes from toddlers to teenagers, can be seen. Festive shopping is a must here, especially during Diwali as they offer great discounts. Laces for unstitched clothes and buttons of all kinds are also available in this market. Great Momos and ‘çhaat’ add to your shopping zing.

Janpath:

Western clothes and beaded jewelry and toys of all kinds steal the show. The shoppers here are especially foreigner friendly. They initially quote very high prices, keeping with the foreign tourists. Here you must use your bargaining skills to the fullest and speak in Hindi only to get great deals.

Chandni Chowk:

Metro connectivity has made this place still more accessible. It’s a wonderful place for a wedding or Occasion shopping. You get ‘ghagra cholis’ for all age groups and you will fall in love with them, hearing the prices!! A li’l secret here are the birthday invitations cards for your Kiddo’s birthday party which are available at throw away prices.

Palika Bazar:

This is the underground market of Delhi and is a really hasty shopping place for travelers who intend to do their last minute shopping, as it is closest to the New Delhi Railway Station.

One can find several electrical gadgets and good electronic toys for children. You must be particular in checking out if the toy works, at the shop itself else you might get duped!

Delhi Haat:

It’s one of my personal favorites for ethnic shopping. You get kurtis, both short and long of all sizes and colors, with a variety of work on the dresses. The crowd here, represents all states in India, so offers an interesting experience! They have small stalls but a bit highly priced.

DELHI HAAT
Some other markets that could be tried out are – Karol Bagh and Noida market place.

SHOPPPING MANTRAS:
1. Bargain Bargain and Bargain…. Here the thumb rule is reducing the price to 50 percent less than the amount quoted.

2. Wash the clothes before you use especially applicable for your kids as they are sold in open market and also we are not sure of the storage hygiene.

3. Thoroughly check the fittings and stiches etc. as they typically don’t have a return/exchange policy.

4. Try to go shopping in the afternoons as this is the time when it’s less crowded and you can judge the colors better in the day time.

5. Carry a good shopping bag as these shoppers give you one of a poor quality.

Happy Shopping!!!
