We all want only one thing for our baby – for them to grow up safe and healthy. When you start noticing that your kid isn’t growing at a pace or speed that you think s/he should be, you start getting worried. But we are here only to tell you that you need not worry.
Babies usually regain their birth weight when they are about 14 days old, double their weight in 3-4 months, and triple their weight in one year. Are you worried that your baby might be underweight or isn’t gaining weight? Is s/he active and reaching all growth milestones, but still isn’t the right weight? Don’t you worry. Here are some foods that will help your baby gain healthy weight.
One of the most amazing inventions of nature, bananas are huge sources of energy and life. A single banana is the source of 100+ calories and are rich in nutrients like carbohydrates, potassium, dietary fiber and vitamins. They are also very common and easy to eat and digest. All you have to do is mash it and feed it to your baby as it’s tasty as well.
The white taste of goodness, milk, is the best way to increase your baby’s weight naturally. You can either feed your baby breast milk or dairy milk, depending on how old s/he is. Especially if the milk is creamy, your child will enjoy the taste as well as benefit from the rich source of all nutrients. Two glasses of milk per day should do just fine.
Eggs are a healthy source of vitamins, like A and B12. Eggs also help in the development of the body’s nervous system and brain. You can start by introducing your baby to egg yolk and then slowly introduce him/her to egg white. If your kid has an allergic reaction, take him/her to the doctor immediately.
Potatoes are rich in carbohydrates and are good sources of vitamins and minerals. They also have low calorie content, so you can be rest assured that your baby won’t put on weight. Since starchy foods are also rich in carbs, you can include rice in your baby’s diet. All these goods can be mashed and made into a tasty, healthy paste and fed to your baby. If your child is a little grown up, s/he might even love cooked potato, like french fries and hash browns.
If you are a non-vegetarian, meat is a great option to increase your baby’s weight. It contains amino acids, fat, protein, iron, zinc and selenium. Red meat also contains iron, which can be very easily absorbed into the baby’s body, so along with putting on weight, it also strengthens the baby’s muscles. Make sure that you introduce your baby to meat at home first and home cook it.
Ragi is a millet that’s highly nutritious, healthy and easy to find. It is one of the best ways to gain weight. It is rich in a number of nutrients like calcium, iron, vitamins, proteins and other minerals. Also, ragi is easily digestible, so it can easily be included in your baby’s diet. For babies, you can use ragi in porridge and cereal, but as they become toddlers, you can make idlis, roti, cake and cookies.
They’re colourful, tasty, sweet, healthy, easily available and nutritious. If this doesn’t convince you to feed your baby some fruit or if your kid doesn’t like eating fruit, you can make fruit juice for them. Fruits are also rich in calories and energy. Dry fruits contain healthy fat, which enhances your baby’s body strength and energy reserves, thereby helping them gain weight.
